MUSIC REVIEW - Caitlin Frame and the Living Daylight

CAITLIN FRAME AND THE LIVING DAYLIGHT - self titled
It doesn’t really matter if this album is good or not, ‘cuz Caitlin is really cute. The album cover isn’t nearly as good of a picture as the promotional photos that came with it, but whatever. I’d give her a solid 8 on cuteness, but only maybe a 6 on hotness. But her smile kicks ass. The music itself, however, isn’t all that great. It’s pop music that’s just ... meh. Nothing’s wrong with it, it just doesn’t do much at all. Will I play it on my show? Signs point to no. RIYL - semi-decent singer-songwriter pop from cute singer-songwriters.

MUSIC REVIEW - Anathallo

ANATHALLO - Canopy Glow
If I was more indie, I would probably really like this. It’s very anemic, slow moving whisper-type indie music. The first few songs really dragged along, with wind and ... cloud? noises in the background. I didn’t like those songs. Then it got better, and sounded like A.C. Newman’s mentally challenged younger brother tried to put out an album. But Bohde might like it. Will I play it on my show? No. RIYL - quiet indie music.

MUSIC REVIEW - Dead To Me

DEAD TO ME - Little Brother
This is straight-forward punk rock in the SoCal vein. It’s good as far as this style of music goes, but it’s a little to ... for my taste. It would fit in absolutely perfectly on the Burnout 3 soundtrack, if that means anything to people besides Bohde and me. Will I play it on my show? Not particularly likely. RIYL - The Burnout 3 soundtrack.

MUSIC REVIEW - The King Left

THE KING LEFT - The New York Nothing EP
According to their promoter, these guys are fairly accomplished for a band I’ve never heard of before. They have some decent garage music, and I enjoyed listening to this. However, I don’t see myself seeking this album out in the KMNR library. It’s just not ... amazing. Will I play it on my show - maybe while it’s on the new rack. RIYL - Tokyo Police Club, We Are Scientists.

MUSIC REVIEW - Chop Chop

CHOP CHOP - Screens
Her voice is always in this whispery, drifting tone, but it holds it's own against the music. She loves playing with her drum machines, and she develops some good beats through it, but the album is very, VERY slow, mellow, and low key. Track 9 (and it's remix, track 10) I enjoyed somewhat, but the rest of it is just too experimental and too anemic for me to like. Will I play it on my show? Maybe track 9, but nothing else. RIYL - they say Mirah and Tender Forever, I can't think of anything.

MUSIC REVIEW - Tongue Dried Sun

TONGUE DRIED SUN - Zero Hour
These guys have some serious musical chops, and actually are pretty good song writers too, it's just unfortunate that they chose a genre I dislike. It's clear that their major formative influences are Metallica and Guns and Roses, which in itself isn't necessarily a bad thing, but they're now shooting more for the Nickelback audience. They are undeniably making a bid for commercial success, as all the songs are FCC clean and were highly glossed in production. Better than many bands in this genre, solely due to their innate abilities. Will I play it on my show? No. RIYL - Nickelback.

MUSIC REVIEW - Will Champlin

WILL CHAMPLIN - Will Champlin
This guy is a one-man boy band. He makes extensive use of vocal overdubbing, playing his voice a few notes higher to accompany his singing. This is actually somewhat of a feat, seeing as the whole album has him singing in a falsetto. The album overall is somewhat annoying - it sounds like he was a Disney channel star that they decided to make record an album. Oh, and he's the son of Bill Champlin from the band Chicago. Take from that what you will. Will I play it on my show? Hell no. RIYL - Backstreet Boys, The Jonas Brothers.

MUSIC REVIEW - The Visitations

THE VISITATIONS - The Conundrum Tree
This album features lots of ethereal guitar and SFX in he background of every song. The songwriters have a good ear for sound layering, but it's not quite developed yet, and this creates some noises wich detract rather than enhance the tracks. It's a little too experimental for my taste, but I'm sure somebody'll like it. Will I play it on my show? No. RIYL - I have no clue, these guys are out there.
